If you are curious about the world of Dungeons and Dragons and want to read, play or watch stories related to the game that swept the nation but aren’t sure where to start, look no further. Here are some things we recommend checking out.
Movies:
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
This adventure-filled movie follows a pretty typical D&D party as they go on a quest. They encounter obstacles they need to defeat and have fun along the way. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a campaign brought to the big screen!
An epic quest to save a lost princess while evading enemies? Sounds like an epic campaign and the plot to Willow! The stakes- and the adventure- don’t get much bigger than this movie!
Maybe not what you’d typically think when you think of Dungeons and Dragons but Guardians of the Galaxy meets all of the requirements of an epic campaign:
- Party? Check.
- Quest with world-altering stakes? Check.
- Epic battles? Check.
- Fun time? Check.
Indiana Jones, if he were a librarian, collecting artifacts from the mythological and literary cannon. The Librarian has a smaller party (just himself and the Guardian) but his quests take him to some literal dungeons

Books:
The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty
Amina al Sirafi thought she was finished with quests and adventures until someone shows up and makes her an offer she can’t turn down. She gets her old crew back together and they hit the high seas.
Legends & Lattes (Bookshops and Bonedust) by Travis Baldree
If you’re interested in the fantasy world but want something cozier, Legends and Lattes is the perfect read. Viv is an Orc whose adventuring days are behind her. She is retiring to open her own coffee shop. Along the way she meets her own party but rather than slaying dragons they are crafting artisanal drinks and pastries.
While playing either D&D or games in general you will encounter NPCs (Non-Player Characters) that play a vital role in your journey. But what happens to the NPCs once you, the adventurer, have moved to the next leg of your journey? NPCs answers that very question. A group of four NPCs at a tavern become the main characters as they are tasked with their own adventure to save their world.
Slaying the Dragon: A Secret History of Dungeons and Dragons by Ben Riggs
This book explores the history of the founding of the company that brought Dungeons and Dragons to the world. Slaying the Dragon follows the rise and fall of Tactical Studies Rules from the inception of D&D and its massive success to the ultimate end of the company.
Of Dice and Men: The Story of Dungeons and Dragons and the People Who Play It by David M. Ewalt
When Dungeons and Dragons was first released, it swept the nation! Some found community and fun adventures through their partys’ campaigns, some vilified the game and anyone who played. Of Dice and Men tells the story of Dungeons and Dragons- and its players- from a cultural perspective.
Whether you are starting on your first campaign or you’re an old pro at quests, this Dungeons and Dragons Player’s Handbook contains all you need to know for your next campaign.
