Get Enthusiastic about this year’s SRP theme with the Warm-Up Challenge

Adventure begins at your library. This is the theme for the upcoming 2024 Summer Reading Program (SRP). ‘Adventures’ take on many forms. The Warm-Up Challenge gives readers of all ages an opportunity to explore several types of fictional and real-life journeys before SRP. This challenge also takes patrons on their own literary quests. For example, the first challenge asks patrons to choose a book from a genre they do not usually read.

From January 1-March 31, patrons who read a book from each category have a chance to win a gift card in a drawing. Patrons can track their reading on Beanstack or with a paper log from a Willoughby-Eastlake Library location.

The categories are as follows:

Category 1: New Year, New Genre. Read a book from a genre you do not typically read.

Category 2: Read an author’s debut book.  View the Debut Book List here:

Category 1: Read a book about or set in a place you are not familiar with.  Here is a list of book suggestions for this theme:

Category 2: Read a book that has been made into a movie.  Check out this “Watch, Read, and Listen” collection of digital page to screen titles from Hoopla:

Category 1: Read an epic adventure with heroic characters—an Arthurian legend, a contemporary techno-thriller, a nautical tale, a Superhero comic, a space quest—any adventure you want!

Category 2: Read about a real-life hero.

As the challenge progresses, reading lists for some of these categories will become available on the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library website and on paper at each library location. Lists will be available for adults, young adults, and children. Patrons now have access to lists of author’s debut books (insert link here).
