Greetings, fellow fans!
Coming back for its 6th year, the Young Adult/Teen signature event WEPLcon will be happening from 11 am – 4 pm on Saturday, October 5th at the Willowick Library! WEPLcon is a library microcon focusing on celebrating fandom of all kinds – video games, anime, books, movies, comics, cosplay, card games, you name it!
WEPLcon is open to the public and free to attend. We’ll have a green screen that you can have your picture taken with a variety of backgrounds, a button-making station so you can flaunt your fandom anywhere, and door prizes. There will also be a miniature painting area, where you can choose a mini printed from the Eastlake Library’s 3D printer to paint and take home! Cosplay is welcomed and encouraged.
Other events for the day include an “Anime WEPL Theater 2000” where we watch anime and comment and critique it together, a hands-on drawing workshop (supplies provided), and a cosplay contest for ages 11-18. We will also have the non-profit cosplay group Heroes United NEO present to take photos.
The Eastlake Women’s Club will be hosting a book sale at which they will be selling discarded manga, anime, video games, and light snacks. We will also have a variety of local artists/vendors present to sell their fandom-related wares such as North Coast Games, Designs by Kayla Marie, Hervonia Baker, Kittyrockart, and more!
Our goal is to provide a safe, welcoming space for teens and young adults to express pride in their interests while learning, making friends, and having the opportunity to explore small businesses as well as the library and the services we offer. Put together by the Young Adult/Teen staff and liaisons, we are looking forward to having another great year of WEPLcon put in the books! It’s going to be a great time, and we can’t wait to see you there!
Until October,
The WEPL Teen Team
