Greetings, fellow otaku!
April was an interesting month for our Tween & Teen Anime Awesomeness group. Our first session we watched Bamboo Blade. The premise is that older kendo instructor Kenzaburo challenges younger kendo instructor Toraji to a practice match between their two schools- if Toraji wins, he gets free meals from Kenzaburo’s father’s restaurant for a year. The problem is that Toraji only has a team captain and is in desperate need of four other girls to join his team so he can compete. After happening upon a talented freshman named Tamaki, a team eventually forms with three other added students. The girls bond over their shared lunches and become a team… but will they succeed against the competition? The teens weren’t overall impressed with this one, but they thought it had potential.
Love Live! School Idol Project was the second series we watched this month. With the shocking news that their school is going to be closed due to lack of new student applicants, student Honoka takes it upon herself to create an idol group to attract more students. However, getting a team together and convincing them to aid her cause proves to be a bit of a challenge. Once a group is assembled, the quest to save the school ensues. If they are successful, will they stop there? Or will they realize they have the potential to be one of the best new idol groups? Overall fun, upbeat, and an interesting introduction into the world of idol groups for those completely unfamiliar. Catchy music, fun characters, and a good pace that the teens felt didn’t drag but also didn’t leave them confused and left behind.
Unfortunately, only season 2 of this series is available in Clevnet. However, for those looking for a similar show, I would suggest looking into Love Live! Sunshine!!, which is a spinoff sequel series that features a new cast of characters.
Blu-Ray sequel spinoff series Love Live! Sunshine!!
Of course, keep in mind that your local library branch has a variety of anime to check out for your viewing! I’m still working my way through Dragon Ball GT (it wasn’t my choice, honest, but we do hard things for the ones we love). However, is anyone else excited for the movie in theaters, Spy x Family: Code White?! I’m also working on that series and it’s so good!

Until the next episode,
