Gaming Update, Vol. 4

Greetings, gamers!

Within the last month, the libraries got a bunch of new and exciting games!

At the tail-end of January, we received copies of Like a Dragon : Infinite Wealth and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (both rated M) for both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Both are action/adventure games, but Like a Dragon is more of an RPG (Roleplaying game) whereas Prince of Persia is more of a puzzle/platforming game. Both have gotten positive reviews, so if you are a fan of either of those franchises, it would be worth checking out these releases!

Tekken 8 (rated T) also arrived for the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5. Who doesn’t like a good fighting game?! Tekken 8 boasts some new and refined combat features, as well as a slew of awesome characters. I, personally, just button mash my way through most fighting games (with varying results). However, technique and skill are encouraged and able to be developed with this game (and rewarded). Ready? Fight!

Then, kicking off February, we have Persona 3 Reload (Rated M) for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. This RPG series has gathered a large fan following – and with good reason! Persona 5’s success and popularity made way for one of the earlier entries in the series to be given a refresh. Being a remake of the Persona 3 originally released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Reload has newly built character models, additional scenes, and some DLC extras. Worth a look, for new and old fans alike!

We also got copies of Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash (Rated T) for the PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch! As an anime fan, I always love seeing adaptations come out of different shows. This game is intended to serve as an introduction to the anime and is a 2 vs. 2 combat fighting game. Jujutsu Kaisen as a manga and anime has received a lot of attention and praise. I would love to know if any of you think the game does the original material justice!

Recently, we also got in the game Skull and Bones (Rated M) for the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. I saw a ridiculous number of ads for this game on YouTube prior to its release, so I know the publisher was promoting it hard. In theory this game seems like an interesting and fun premise, but I’m not sure that I saw much actual gameplay in the trailers, so I would be interested to see how the actual execution of the game turned out. It might be fun to be a pirate for a little bit! I think I would name my ship “Chaos” so I could tell my crew to address me as “Captain Chaos” and just make everything an absolute mess (speaking as a one with a “chaotic good” alignment, naturally).

Last, but certainly not least, we also got the highly anticipated Mario vs Donkey Kong (Rated E) for the Nintendo Switch. This is a remake of the 2004 Game Boy Advance game that shares the same name. It’s a puzzle platforming game and, unlike the original, has a 2-player mode that allows players to take control of Mario and Toad as they chase Donkey Kong to retrieve Mario’s stolen toys. It looks fun!

Just as a reminder for those of you interested in checking out our new games – you must have a Willoughby-Eastlake Library card and have had it for at least 30 days. The new games are 14 day loans and are NOT renewable. Also, with our new games you can only have 2 at a time checked out on your card. Our not as new games (which are holdable and renewable) you can have more of – if you’re not over your 50 item limit!

Until the next level,

Miss Bryn
