Library Ambassador Volunteer
Location: Willowick Library
Immediate Supervisor: Building Manager
PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION: Library Ambassadors serve as a first point of contact for Library patrons. There is a need to have help at various outreach events. Library Ambassadors take responsibility for selecting items for our Little Free Libraries and refreshing the contents on a weekly basis. Other opportunities as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Smile and greet all patrons entering the library
- Answer directional questions
- Assist patrons in locating meeting rooms
- Select materials for inclusion in the Little Free Libraries on a weekly basis
- Helps library staff at outreach events and assembles library materials at off-site locations
- Dust materials and shelving on a regular basis
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Cheerful and friendly disposition
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Desire to help patrons
- Ability to update meeting room schedules and other pertinent information in the Ambassador Binder
- Ability to respond appropriately to patrons while establishing a good rapport
- Ability to work well with others
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to use a personal computer and/or tablet (familiar with Windows software). Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and Internet searching skills
- Ability to select a balanced collection of discarded materials and keep the Little Free Libraries stocked on a weekly basis
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to pass a background check
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers in this position should be excellent communicators, demonstrate patience and a genuine concern for patron needs. Must be reliable and be able to work independently.
