W-E Library Now Lending Mobile Hotspots!
WILLOWICK, OH: On May 3, 2016, The Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library began lending Mobile Hotspots to library patrons. A Mobile Hotspot is a portable device that provides Internet access through a variety of devices including laptops and tablets. Each of the four system libraries in Eastlake, Willoughby, Willoughby Hills and Willowick hold 5 Mobile Hotspots for checkout.
When asked why the library was now offering Mobile Hotspots, Melanie Wilson, Virtual Services Manager, stated that “The purpose of lending Mobile Hotspots is to improve and widen Internet access beyond the library, particularly for those library patrons who do not currently have Internet access in their home.” Up to 5 devices can be connected to a single Mobile Hotspot and may be used anywhere in the continental United States. Libraries are continuously searching for new ways to reinvent themselves and bring new technology to library patrons, no matter where they are. Lori Caszatt, Communications & Development Manager added that “Mobile Hotspots are also a great way for travelers to obtain Internet access on the go from anywhere they may be including conference centers, airports or the beach.”
Library patrons 18 years and older who wish to check out a Mobile Hotspot must have a library card, sign a Borrower Agreement and show a valid I.D. with current address. Mobile Hotspots may be checked out for 5 days. Due to high demand, Mobile Hotspots are first come, first serve and may not be placed on hold or renewed. Each Mobile Hotspot is checked out to library patrons with a User Guide, micro USB cable and charging cord.
