News-Herald Digitization at the Willoughby Library
In March 2016, we will start phase 1 of a 4 year project to digitize the historic run of the News-Herald alongside the microfilm of other local newspapers. The Willoughby Library currently holds over 1,200 reels of microfilm.
We will work closely with Access to digitize 300 reels of film each year over the next 4 years. The first set of microfilm that will be digitized will include the Willoughby Independent (1879) through the May 31, 1977 edition of the News-Herald. This will include over 100 years of content, news stories, and obituaries. The microfilm will be picked up on Monday, February 29 and will be unavailable until mid-June. A PDF of each reel should be available by the end of June.
