Willowick and Willoughby Renovations Report, Issue 3

As visitors to both the Willowick and Willoughby Libraries know, the renovation work has commenced at both buildings. Our general contractor, Lakeland Management Systems, and its subcontractors have been hard at work to bring about the transformation of both libraries.

Willowick Library

The initial work at the Willowick Library has been centered on the lower level which is being renovated to house the expanded Children’s Department, a multi-use meeting room, a staff lounge and breakroom, and new offices for the Library Manager and the WEPL Boosters, our Library Friends organization. Because the work has been conducted on the lower level, we have not yet had to impact patron services. That will change towards the end of January when the work moves upstairs.

In order to replace the three boilers at the Library, the Willowick Library will be closed from Monday, January 9, 2017 through Wednesday, January 11, 2017. The Library will reopen on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 9:00 am. During this three-day closure, our other three libraries (Eastlake, Willoughby, and Willoughby Hills) will be open to serve regular Willowick Library patrons. We apologize for the inconvenience that this causes to the Willowick community.

Willoughby Library

The construction work at the Willoughby Library has been concentrated on the Euclid Avenue side of the upper level, the new home of the expanded Children’s Department. While we wait for the arrival of the new carpet, we will be moving the Children’s Department to its new space soon in order to allow the contractor to begin work in the “old” Children’s department which will be the home of an expanded Young Adult Department as well as the non-fiction and periodical collections. There will be “spot closings” of the Children’s Department over the next few weeks as we migrate the Children’s collections across the upper level of the Library.

We are grateful to our communities for their patience and support as work at both libraries progresses. Please stay tuned to our website and our Facebook page for updated information on the renovation work and its impact on customer service. We look forward to celebrating our transformed Willowick and Willoughby Libraries in the spring!
