If These Streets Could Talk

Welcome to the online poetry gallery of “If These Streets Could Talk”, a special poetry project with the Eastlake Police Department and Eastlake Middle School.

The Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library was awarded a LSTA (Library Services Technology Act) grant from the State Library of Ohio to fund the project. Sara Holbrook and Michael Salinger of Outspoken Literacy Consultants conducted writing workshops with the police officers and teacher Libbie Royko’s middle students separately and a final workshop where the groups combined to create ‘Poems for Two Voices’. The officers and students were empowered to create poetry about a conflict in their lives.

The results of their hard work can be found here.
