    • Yes. Except in the most extreme situation, provision will need to be made during construction for the two Libraries to continue to provide service to patrons.

    13. Will the construction be one single contract for two buildings or two contractors?

    • Because we hope to undertake both projects on roughly the same timeframe, it is our hope that we can achieve some economies of scale by employing a single general contractor.

    WE Promise http://we247.org/we-promise/ Wed, 30 Sep 2015 22:00:47 +0000 http://we247.org/?p=3898 WE Promise

    WE Promise Logo
The children’s staff will be launching a new early literacy program called WE Promise with our story time families beginning on October 5.

WE Promise was developed to promote reading with children six years old and under. Studies show that reading to your children for at least 15 minutes per day will help them become better readers. It also has been proven to create readers who love reading.

As a caregiver who is bringing your child to storytime, you already know that reading is important. You probably have many books at home but it is also key to share new books with your child. Children need to be consistently introduced to new books because they contain new words, new ideas and new images. All of this builds a child’s literary vocabulary. This is where the library and WE Promise come in.

Families who sign up will receive an awesome bag that they will bring back each week of the storytime session. They are to pick out at least 7 books to check out and show them to the children’s staff member who will punch a card. The children will receive prizes for completing 3 and 7 punches. Once a card is full, they will receive another and can keep earning prizes.

If you are interested in signing up for WE Promise, please talk to a Children’s Librarian.

September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library joins with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to make sure that every student has the most import school supply of all – a free library card.

Resources at the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library are available to anyone who has a library card. Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and knowledgeable library staff that support academic achievement.

Today’s libraries aren’t only a place of quiet study, but also creative and engaging community centers where students can collaborate using new technologies or just relax with peers. Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, including Gale Virtual Reference Library, ebooks, and databases that can be accessed in person or online.

    I Love My Librarian Award
We love libraries and librarians. We love books and reading. We love places that connect us to new ideas and encourage learning. Has the library made a difference in your life? Has a librarian touched your life?

Librarians touch the lives of the people they serve every day. The I Love My Librarian Award encourages library users like you to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional librarians. We want to hear how you think your librarian is improving the lives of the people in our community.

Each year 10 librarians are selected. Each librarian receives a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend the awards ceremony and reception in New York City, hosted by The Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Each nominee must be a librarian with a master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association in library and information studies or a master’s degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library.

Nominations for the 2015 I Love My Librarian Award are open through September 28.
